First we have the Medium Wave or in fact just above it. This was always a classical Pirate band. Between 1610 Kc. till 1650 Kc. you can hear Pirates almost every day. There is a lot of activity mostly in the evening. They use a fairly amount of power and some of the Pirates can be heared far outside of the Netherlands. Sometimes you can also hear stations from Greece, the Balkan and Spain. These can mostly been found between 1650 and 1689 Kc. A lot depends of the propagation, summer or winter and day or night. In the summer and during the day the receiption is worse with a lot of noise.
During the day there are also Pirates under the 1600 Kc. Some often used channals are: 1473, 1503, 1566 en 1584 Kc., but also 1350 and 1188 are sometimes used. It is advised to use PLL or crystal driven transmitters when transmitting below the 1600 Kc. and obey to the 9 kHz. grid. Most Pirates use a high frequency, because of the length of the antenna.
